Coach Raymond Micallef had a selection headache before this match as he had several first team players missing. There were 3 new players in the starting line-up with Daniel Micallef and Pierre Bianchi returning to the game after a 5 year absence while new player Dieter Grunwald was making his firts appearance for the club.
Lightshop Hotsticks dominated this game from start to finish using their possession tactics to the full against a depleted White Hart outfit missing several first team players. Jonathan Borg shot Hotsticks into the lead on 5 minutes but it was not until the 21st minute that Alessandro Amore pounced onto a rebound off the goalkeeper’s pads to send his team 2 – 0 up. White Hart were providing a strong defensive display but on 34 minutes Hotsticks were awarded a penalty stroke and Shawn Grima scored Hotsticks’ third from the spot. White Hart hit back when Charlo Sammut’s flick following a short corner trickled over the line on the stroke of half time leaving Hotsticks to lead 3 -1 at the end of the first half.
The second half saw a change of tactics with White Hart pushing a couple of players into midfield while Hotsticks continued to exert constant pressure down the right flank providing teasing crosses for their forwards in the centre of the D. On 41 minutes Julian Zahra grabbed Hotsticks’ fourth goal, with Borg scoring his second and his team’s fifth three minutes later. Amore scored his second on 50 minutes to send Hotsticks 6 – 1 ahead and on 68 minutes Grima shot a screamer into the top of the net sending his team into a 7 -1 victory
